CAUV Filing Procedure

1. Pick up an application from the county auditor's map room in Jefferson, Monday-Friday between 8:00am - 4:30pm. (440) 576-3789
2. Pick up a copy of an aerial photograph with property lines outlined from the farm service agency (formerly known as the A.S.C.S.) located at 33 Grand Valley Avenue in Orwell, Monday-Friday between 8:00am - 4:30pm (440) 437-6330.  There is no charge for the aerial photograph.  Make sure the property lines are on the photo before you leave. This can also be purchased from the Ashtabula County Engineer's Office for $1.00. 

Be prepared and able to identify your property lines on the aerial photograph.

3. Take the aerial photograph to the Ashtabula County Soil & Water Conservation District located at 39 Wall Street, Jefferson, Monday - Friday between 8:00am - 4:30pm (440) 576-4946.  You will receive free of charge from them a copy of the soil map, list of soils present on your property and the soil capability classes.
4. Return to the county auditor's office with the completed CAUV application, aerial photograph, soil map, list of soils present, and soil capability classes.  There will be a $25.00 filing charge.

***  Make sure your property lines are outlined on the aerial photograph and that they are correct before leaving the farm agency in Orwell.

***  The Ashtabula County Soil and Water Conservation District staff will not give you a soil map and corresponding information if you do not have the completed aerial photograph from Orwell.
